Welcome to SALIS - COVID Support Portal...

The WHO says “The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a dramatic loss of human life worldwide and presents an unprecedented challenge to public health, food systems and the world of work. The economic and social disruption caused by the pandemic is devastating: tens of millions of people are at risk of falling into extreme poverty, while the number of undernourished people, currently estimated at nearly 690 million, could increase by up to 132 million by the end of the year.”
The entire world is suffering severely due to the COVID-19 pandemic since January 2020. Statistics show about 3.04 lakhs of people died, 2.68 crore people are affected and 2.37 crore people are recovered due to coronavirus attack since 2020 in India.
The Govt. of India, all the state governments including Govt. of Tamil Nadu are taking many initiatives to help the COVID-19 affected people in all possible ways – medical treatment and financial assistance, etc., Many NGOs, Voluntary Organizations & Groups, institutions, individuals are also involved in helping the distressed people.
Many LIS professionals across India and also in Tamil Nadu died due to COVID-19. Many LIS professionals are affected and hospitalized. It is the moral responsibility of SALIS to help the affected members at the possible extent. Affected members need moral support and guidance more than financial support. They are also need guidance about what they should do when they got affected. such as information about the treatment, availability of medicines, hospitals, doctors etc.
SALIS contributed last year to the PM’s COVID-19 Relief Fund and Tamil Nadu CM’s COVID-19 Relief Fund. SALIS Nellore chapter distributed food, food materials, COVID-19 medical kit, and groceries to the affected people in various parts of Nellore and also to the migrant laborers for more than a month. Many SALIS members contributed/helped a lot to the COVID-19 affected people in many ways.
Realizing the need to help the affected members and other LIS professionals in this hour of crisis, SALIS decided to set up a “SALIS COVID-19 RELIEF FUND” in its SALIS Governing Council meeting held on 22nd May 2021 to help the COVID-19 affected members - by getting donation/sponsorship from the members, professionals and others and also formulated the objectives.
